Austin Burger Guide

Your Mom’s Burger Bar

1701 E Cesar Chavez Ste. B, Austin, TX 78702

Great burger joint on the eastside of town serving up “The Best Gourmet, Stuffed Burgers in Texas”.   Check out my review of Your Mom’s Burger Bar here.

Hut’s

807 W 6th St, Austin, TX

An Austin staple thats been around since 1939.  I recommend the ‘Wolfman Jack’ with a side of their golden onion rings.  Insider Tip: Wednesdays are buy one get one free burgers!

Max’s Wine Dive

207 San Jacinto, Austin, TX

Max’s serves a Kobe Beef Burger that will make your eyes roll back into your head.  (So will their fried oysters)  It was also featured in Texas Monthly’s ‘Top 50 Burgers in Texas’, unfortunately it’s a $15 burger, more if you add Bacon and Gruyere cheese, which I highly recommend.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar

1400 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX

Hopdoddy’s is serving up quality Black Angus Beef burgers on fresh buns made from scratch.   Nice modern atmosphere with a large full service bar.

Check out my review of Hopdoddy Burger Bar here.

Mike’s Pub

108 East 7th Street, Austin, TX

Mike’s Pub is a complete dive that’s located in a parking garage just half a block off Congress Ave.  This is the place you go if you need a really greasy burger to cure your hangover.  WARNING: Their typical hours are Mon-Fri from 11am – 3pm.

Counter Cafe

626 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX

A tiny, inconspicuous place that serves great burgers and was listed in Texas Monthly’s ‘Top 50 Burgers in Texas’.  During my trip here I had the privilege of sharing their communal table with Danny Trejo and some film crew during the time they were filming the movie Machete.  (He’s much shorter than he looks, but still very intimidating)

Jackalope / Chupacabra Cantina

404 & 400 East 6th Street, Austin, TX

These two places share a kitchen so they got lumped together.  A convenient location right on 6th Street to get a solid burger.

P. Terry’s

404 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX

P. Terry’s is the only Burger joint on the list with a drive-thru.  Personally, these are not my favorite burgers, but they are an Austin staple and have such a cult following and key location that they are an obvious choice for the list.

Casino El Camino

517 East 6th Street, Austin, TX

WARNING!!!  Casino El Camino is EXTREMELY hit or miss.  I have had burgers here that are of epic proportions and extremely satisfying.  However, they are extremely slow and you will very likely wait 30-45 minutes for a burger.  This is a great metal/rocker dive bar on 6th Street that was featured on the Food Network’s ‘Diners, Drive-In’s, and Dive’s with a great jukebox.

Parkside

301 East 6th Street, Austin, TX

I have had a great meal here, but have not personally tried the burger.  Another place that was listed on Texas Monthly’s “Top 50 Burgers in Texas” list, and with its prime location it made the list.  They do have a HUGE oyster list, and quality food in general.
